Dell supporting Cognitive technologies with its Dell Precision workstations
Cognitive technologies AI and ML are changing the face of modern computing. Applications which required human intervention for analyzing data, complex processing can be now done by AI & ML algorithms in less time giving accurate results.
Deep learning is a subset of Machine learning are both forms of Artificial Intelligence. The deep learning algorithms are a multi-layered approach which is in turn defined by algorithms in the architecture. The multiple layers of pattern recognition are built on one another.
Deep learning and AI have come up in all sectors from engineering to healthcare wherein huge amounts of data are being collected from web and IoT with increasing GPUs. As image recognition is gaining momentum in security and robotics via cameras and autonomous vehicles which completely rely on camera capture. The matter of significance here is identifying the pattern of the objects in received data with designed algorithms. Deep learning has proved to be accurate and fast to meet the needs of the applications.
What we have seen of AI, ML and deep learning is just the beginning of the journey of cognitive technologies of tomorrow. Deep learning with its deep neural networks is making it easier to scan huge data received efficiently and developing behavior of complex non-linear systems with accuracy is enabling it to develop as future technology.
As per Alexander Linden, research vice president of Gartner “AI technologies can only deliver value if they are part of the organization’s strategy and used in the right way,”
Before cognitive technologies can be made a part of the organization strategy to implement you need to have the infrastructure to support it. This is where Dell comes into picture wherein it is making its workstations compatible with these upcoming cognitive technologies.
Dell has taken up the challenge to get its workstations compatible with these cognitive technologies. Dell is using the AI to optimize performance in its workstations. As per Dell Senior Product Manager Niraj Shah, they are using static-profile based approach. He quotes “Our performance engineers would use industry-standard benchmarks and work with partners to create a profile. We had good results with that, but the approach was not scalable because people were using different kinds of applications in different ways than the industry benchmarks.”
In Oct2018, Dell began installing the Dell Precision Optimizer standard version 5.x on its precision workstations. This is available on a 30-day free trial. The Dell Precision Optimizer software collects the data from the applications running during the individual user’s workflow. The data such as CPU utilization, number of threads engaged during the process, memory utilization during the process and cache during the process goes to the machine learning model designed to optimize it.
“Our requirement when designing the Dell Precision Optimizer Premium software is that the application learning process on the box to characterize the workload shall not use more than 3% of system resources,” Shah says. The learning process takes about an hour, depending on the user’s workload, and can be re-initiated by the user at any time if their workflow changes. No data leaves the user’s system.
Shah says Dell Precision Optimizer Premium has been able to increase the performance of common design engineering applications significantly, citing a 500% increase in PTC Creo and a 224% increase in Siemens NX software according to Dell internal testing.
“The idea is that now you have a tool that can use your application behavior, in the way you’re using it, to come up with the right optimization for you,” Shah says. “Whether it’s off-the-shelf or homegrown software, just point file to Dell Precision Optimizer Premium and start using it as you normally would.
Dell’s workstations dell precision 5520 workstation, Dell Precision 5820 Tower, Precision 7820 Tower, Precision 7920 Tower, and Precision 7920 Rack are completely redesigned inside and out. With new flexible chassis equipped with latest Intel Xeon processors, next-generation Radeon Pro graphics and highest-performing NvidiaQuadro professional graphics cards they can run the algorithms and help in daily business. These precision dell workstations are certified and for professional software applications. They are competent to handle complex projects, VR, with reliable memory technology (RMT) which makes sure you do not face memory challenges during workflow and Dell Precision Optimizer (DPO) is tailor-made to give good performance with your combination of hardware and software.
The customizable configuration of Dell Precision workstations delivers flexibility to handle any workload inclusive of AI, VR and editing and playback.
AI: Recent Intel Xeon processors are the best choice for AI with the agile performance during varying workloads. The workstations can handle ML and deep learning algorithm architecture also. In case it is for AI the Dell Precision workstations allows you to optimize software in existing Intel infrastructure.
VR: The NvidiaQuadro GP100 fuels the development and deployment of DL and ML applications. The Nvidia Pascal GPU like HBM2 memory and NVLink technologies allow VR professionals to create complex designs in CAE and create life-like VR environments to experience.
Editing & Playback: Radeon Pro SSG Graphics with HBM2 memory and 2TB of SSD gives an opportunity to real-time 8K video editing and playback, computing high-performance huge datasets and rendering in big projects.
The Dell Precision Workstations are designed to get all your work done at an affordable price. As Dell Precision Optimizer optimizes the performance of any application and helps you to in business for future.
The precision is powering the future in case of healthcare. Doctors/Physicians are using deep learning to analyze huge chunks of data and medical images efficiently to determine the accurate treatments with higher chances of recovery.
Deep learning is used in sectors of Energy to determine the wind patterns, in Agriculture to determine the use of pesticide, in Finance to design security levels to counter fraud detection and to predict the market, in field of manufacture to run the warehouses with good machine performance.
Cognitive technologies have changed the face of the world today. What we are witnessing is just a chip off the block and is expected to grow leaps and bounds. Keeping up with the trend is Dell with its precision workstations to cater to these upcoming technologies.
